PUBLIC AS A LIVING ORGANISM

Treating people like a living organism within the building envelope. The structure captures the spirit of the Arrowtown river by capturing the sounds, rhythm, smell, and flow of the river.  The architecture itself is used as a metaphor for the river bed. With this concept, the idea of function within the building is emphasized. In order for public flow to be as natural as the river flow on the site, the program is treated coherently and lively to mirror the water properties. The building should embody a sense of water symbolism and how it helped the first Chinese settlers. Concrete walls with negative imprints help portray a sense of contemporary ornamentally which complement the ecology of the site.  Within my architecture, I implemented the idea of public flow on a slope which links to the idea of the river flow in Arrowtown. Executing the idea of a hypothetic zone (space between the rocks where little insects can hide from predators, yet still get river flow with their nutrients) allows me to design tight and narrow spaces within my interior changing the public perspective and values of their interior surroundings. Furthermore, the building's corridors and walkways travel perpendicularly due to influences of river roads that tend to follow isoclines of the river in order to form logical bridges. Enhancing the tranquil water flow sounds by the architecture will achieve access and insight into a world of frequencies beyond our acoustic ability; gaining more appreciation from the public as it makes us more aware of the beauty nature holds.
