ARC/SEC

Group Project

arc/sec is an ongoing research project that integrates design studios and seminars on the postgraduate and undergraduate level. Collectively we explore concepts for a new condition of buildings and cities, in which digital information will be given physical form and physical spatial appearance. The aim is to make data `touchable` in space.

Architectural space from my point of view is a drawn analogy from the interpretation of a structure in terms of human physiognomy. This assignment of a being’s character or personality within an architectural space can be resembled in the animation as it creates an environment allowing a person to identify their level of comfort.  The concept of organic character and morphology is presented with the objects formal identity.

The prismatic nature of the Mesh comprises of triangular compositions arranged in an interlinking formation. The creating of the sinuous curve shows the morphology of the design within the nature of the structure. The mesh allows for micro and macro adjustments within the fabric. Such nature of the mesh presents an opportunity in the digital rearrangement of the interlinking parts, allowing for the formation of various shapes within the existing surface area.

Within my animation I have also undertaken the consideration of boundaries, connections and movement within the digital experience. Architecture as space is about ensuring your focus on the right medium. Spatial experience were aimed to be very dynamic and rely on what is not literally constructed, which is, space. Architectural environment is about ensuring your focus on the right space. Space flows, and is primarily experienced over time as raw shapes and interlinking object distortion come into play but more importantly the rhythm, focus, contraction and expansion of darkness, depth replying on scale and rotation of axis. The animation consists of many scale and rotational scripts as well as a control by feet script as the feeling of earthing your stability majorly effects a person’s feeling within a space.
